A Brave New Knight

Updated: Oct 3

After a hugely successful year, NewsKnight has gone from strength to strength and acquired some outstanding talent from Baldock’s favourite Sixth Form, writes R Wilmore

Sunny smiles! KTS Tower's NewsKnights minus J Farrow, L Nyirenda and I Nahar

With the freshly acquired Shine Media Award under our belt just as the new school year is getting underway, KTS News Knight is branching out with more content tailored to you. Expect posters and surveys to pop up around the school, and with this, a new era of NewsKnight content.

As fantastic new members join us from this year's sixth form cohort, we hope to concrete this award-winning website firmly into this school’s community. Want to know what a new MP means for the local community? Or what is going on with the upcoming American election? Perhaps look at a review before borrowing from the library, or read how the school supported the Macmillan Coffee Morning. Maybe even catch one of our fun video specials on school events, like Sports Day or School Trips. All this will be brought into your inbox, with articles written and curated by your fellow students.

"Fantastic new members joined us from this year's sixth form cohort"

KTS NewsKnight is the voice of the students for the students, and has little teacher intervention. This allows for an unprecedented amount of self expression for young people which is not seen in other schools. This is one of the reasons why we won the award, along with our intuitive website design and uses of a multimedia medium with our video specials, filmed interviews, and podcast. What other school had students interviewing their local MP candidates that were running for office?

The coordinator of News Knight, Mr McDermott, has a plethora of expertise in the media industry, from magazines to social media campaigns, and so anyone who has an interest in this field of work will find no better mentor. KTS NewsKnight welcomes all fields, from avid writers, computer coders, daring designers, and statistic surfers. We encourage you that by joining this team many universities or apprenticeships will recognise that you will have experience that others don't, which puts you leaps ahead of the rest.

We hope that you are able to join us for this year's News Knight journey.
